Here we have a lovely large French antique wooden grain measure.
It was used in its time to measure and transport grains and pulses as it has a convenient metal handle hidden on the top surface of the bucket. It is made of wood (usually oak) and black iron, with metal protecting it’s edges and sides.
This piece has aged wonderfully. It has a lovely rich patina to the wood and iron. It would be a lovely decoration as is or could be used for home storage – a quirky planter, paper bin, umbrella stand. We will let you use your imagination!
As this item is antique and more than 100 years old, there are signs of aging such as distressed marks/cracks/tiny holes and wearing in the wood, iron and metal pieces. You can also see areas where there is a decorative silhouette in the wood where there was once a piece of metal and or nails. It’s a sturdy, solid piece and can be used.
